We Miss You Zulumoon Gondolas

Driving to the shops or to work and not seeing the restaurants or basic entertainment open is a surreal experience. We are all going about our days in a sort of survival mode. Doing what needs to be done to get by and get through this pandemic and lockdown. My thoughts are with the many businesses that have to close during the Lockdown. Many have lost their businesses, their livelihood, and even their hope. It has been some reprieve being able to go for walks at least.

Walking along the promenade with my friend for a bit of exercise. To breathe in the outside sea air and feel a false sense of normalcy. We took a detour to the Point Waterfront Canal to see the lovely Gondola boats unnaturally docked. They are meant to be gliding along the water, full of people and full of life. I must confess my heart along with my temporary daydream, sank to see that all was not right with the world. We miss you, Zulumoon Gondolas! We miss what you represent! You represent joy, romance, fun, laughter, freedom and life!

It was a significant day for South African Citizens when we finally heard Ramaphosa utter words of hope that a few more businesses could now open. Restaurants, hairdressers, even movies. I hope it will not be too long before the Gondolas are open. When the troubles of life get a little too gloomy, we can take our loved ones on a romantic picnic ride and forget our worries for a few moments.

The entertainment industry took the biggest hit during this lockdown, I am sure! Deemed non-essential by the powers that be but yet essential to the people who it affects. We all are guilty of taking simple things in life for granted. Things that act as a therapy to break the mundane and monotonous. Just spending time with the people we love, friends and family. Doing fun things together is not a cure for inevitable lockdown depression, but it sure will help us all feel a little better.
